Life as an Orthoptist in New Zealand

Orthoptist jobs in New Zealand
I’m an orthoptist originally from England, and I’ve been living and working in New Zealand for the past two . I never imagined that I would end up living on the other side of the world, but I’m so glad that I did! New Zealand is an absolutely beautiful country, and the people here are some of the nicest I’ve ever met.

I initially came to New Zealand on a one-year working holiday visa, and I ended up finding a job at a hospital in Auckland. I loved it so much that I decided to stay for another year, and then eventually applied for permanent residency. The process was quite long and involved, but it was worth it in the end.

One of the best things about being an orthoptist in New Zealand is that there is a huge demand for our services. In England, orthoptists are relatively unknown; most people have never even heard of us! Here in New Zealand, however, almost everyone knows what we do and how we can help. It’s been really gratifying to be able to help so many people improve their vision.
Another great thing about working as an orthoptist in New Zealand is that there are plenty of opportunities to further your career. There are always new courses and workshops being offered, and you can really specialize in whatever area you’re interested in. I’ve been able to attend workshops on subjects like low vision and pediatrics, which has made me a better orthoptist overall.
The only downside to working as an orthoptist in New Zealand is that the pay isn’t as good as it is in England or Australia. But honestly, that’s a small price to pay for being able to live in such a beautiful country with such nice people!
If you’re thinking about making the move to New Zealand as an orthoptist, I would say go for it! You won’t regret it. The demand for our services is high, there are plenty of opportunities for career advancement, and you’ll get to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Sure, the pay isn’t as good as it could be, but trust me when I say that it’s worth it.
